Can You Beat My Mock Meat?
Vinh Loi Tofu

A couple of weeks ago when we were in Los Angeles, my bf Ben and I went to our favourite vegan restaurant, a small cafe called Vinh Loi Tofu in Reseda. We’d been there a couple of times before, but this time the owner was there, so we asked him to make us his favourite dishes on the menu.

A triathlon-running vegetarian chef, Kevin Tran served us three dishes that all featured his new mock-meat invention - faux-Spam! We had Spam banh mi, Spam salad and Spam noodles. It was kinda amazing, but perhaps a little heavy on the Spam in the end.

Anyways, Vinh Loi make the best vege banh mi around, with about six options to choose from, all fresh and crunchy and delicious. They make all their faux products in house, and they’re really friendly and casual. I’ve been to approximately one million mock meat restaurants in my life, and this is by far my favourite!

Hey everyone and welcome to my new Tumblr. I make fake Peking Duck wraps all the time with the product pictured above. I buy mine from Minh Phat, the Asian grocery megastore on Nicholson St, Richmond, in my hometown of Melbourne, Australia. My boyfriend and I love the crisp, gluten-y goodness!
